The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) is set to host the Nano Electronics Roadshow and Conference on March 27, 2025, at IISc Bengaluru.

The event, organized in collaboration with leading academic institutions, aims to bring together key stakeholders from government, industry, academia, startups, and venture capital firms to foster advancements in nanoelectronics and achieve the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

This conference will showcase cutting-edge topics such as quantum technology, neuromorphic computing, AI, IT, and indigenous nanoelectronics innovations. It will also feature 50 technology demonstrations, participation from 25 deep-tech startups, and opportunities for these startups to pitch to 25 venture capitalists, paving the way for growth and investment.

Prominent figures like Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, and leaders from ISRO, Tata Electronics, and Micron will participate, highlighting the Government’s commitment to India’s self-reliance in electronics innovation and manufacturing.

By facilitating industry-academia collaboration and investments, this roadshow marks a significant step in India’s journey towards semiconductor self-sufficiency under the India Semiconductor Mission.

Drone radar facilitates agricultural monitoring

In agriculture, drones distribute seeds or fertilizers with precision, saving both time and money. When combined with sensors and artificial intelligence, they can perform remote sensing, similar to satellites and airplanes, monitor large crops, conduct detailed analyses of soil’s chemical elements, and identify issues such as erosion. One of the most advanced techniques in this field, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), has been enhanced by Radaz, a startup founded in 2017 at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and now based in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. “It’s an innovative technology with enormous potential to generate a wide variety of products, serving various market segments,” says electrical engineer Hugo Enrique Hernández Figueroa from UNICAMP’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC), who led the team responsible for developing a radar mounted on a small drone. To achieve this, the team had to miniaturize the radar’s electronic hardware and antennas. The id...

Japan to increase reliance on nuclear energy

Japan’s Cabinet has approved a new basic energy plan emphasising nuclear power and renewables as its primary carbon-free sources to ensure energy security and achieve net-zero emissions. The government revises its energy plan about every three years. The plan is based on the Basic Energy Policy Law enacted in June 2002. The new 7th Basic Energy Plan reverses the government’s earlier resolve to minimise reliance on nuclear energy following the 2011 Fukushima crisis. Nuclear power will account for about 20% of the Japan’s total energy output in fiscal 2040, similar to the fiscal 2030 target of 20-22% and a significant increase on the 8.5% in fiscal 2023. Electricity demand is expected to rise due in part to the prevalence of artificial intelligence and data centres. The government aims to meet high demand by easing requirements for replacing old reactors with new ones. When rebuilding at a plant site is not possible, power companies will be allowed to establish replacement reactors...

The Role of AI in Advancing Robotics Samradni Published on:  25 Mar 2025, 8:00 pm The Artificial Intelligence(AI) revolution in robotics makes robots smarter, faster, and more efficient. Industries worldwide are using AI-driven robots to increase efficiency and cut expenses. The AI and Robotics — the Killer Combination Robots  have existed for decades, but they were limited to pre-programmed tasks. Machine learning and automation are making robots learn and adapt. A 2023 report by McKinsey found that robotics powered by AI could increase global gross domestic product (GDP) growth by up to $4.4 trillion annually. This demonstrates the growing dominance of AI in the robotics space. How AI is Improving Robotics 1. Smarter Decision-Making Traditional robots operate from set commands.  AI robots  are capable of data processing and decision-making, which helps them prepare for the unknown. For example, AI robots deployed in the warehouse optimize storage and search ...
